Reporter arrested while covering crime scene
The Post-Star newspaper of Glens Falls, N.Y., reports that police arrested one of its reporters July 9 at the scene of a shooting in the town of Lake George.
Police said David Taube was arrested “after he refused orders to leave the area,” the newspaper story said.
In an editorial about the arrest, Post-Star Editor Ken Tingley said the reporter had done nothing wrong and that the newspaper would fight the arrest.
Taube was arrested “four hours after the crime had been reported,” Tingley wrote. “There were no bodies at the scene and the roads were open to the public.”
“When arrested, our reporter was asking police officers on a public road questions,” a press release from the newspaper said. “That is what thousands of reporters do every day in this country without being arrested.”
