Obama administration urges opening old grand jury records

The New York Times reports that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has written to a committee of federal judges to ask that they amend the rule making it a crime to release grand jury testimony and other information.

Such a change would open up transcripts of historically significant cases at least 30 years old, the Times reports, as long as disclosure would not damage any remaining witnesses or targets of investigations.
