No baggy pants, Miss. town decides
COLUMBIA, Miss. — Baggy pants are not welcome in the city of Columbia.
WDAM-TV reports that the board of aldermen approved the prohibition this week. The new ordinance declares the wearing of low-hanging baggy pants to be indecent.
People wearing pants, shorts or skirts that hang three inches or more below the waist will be fined for indecency. Fines range from $50 for a first offense all the way up to $200 for any subsequent offense.
Columbia Mayor Reed Houston said it was an issue that needed to be taken seriously. People ticketed under the ordinance who fail to show up for court will be arrested, he said.
Houston said there was a line of indecency that city had to draw if some people wouldn’t draw it for themselves.
