New guidelines: stop bullies, but spare free speech

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Education Week reports on today’s release of “Harassment, Bullying and Free Expression: Guidelines for Free and Safe Public Schools.”

The publication quoted First Amendment Center Senior Scholar Charles Haynes as saying it’s too often the case that “anytime anyone says something that makes anyone uncomfortable, it’s bullying.”

The guidelines were produced by the American Jewish Committee and the Religious Freedom Education Project, which Haynes directs. They were released today at a press conference in Washington, D.C.
