Gene Foreman, the Foster professor of communications at Penn State, is
the former deputy editor of The Philadelphia
Inquirer and vice president of Philadelphia Newspapers Inc.
Before joiningThe Inquirer, Foreman
was managing editor of two other newspapers: the Pine Bluff (Ark.) Commercial and the Arkansas Democrat in Little Rock. He has served on
the board of directors and as president of the Associated Press Managing
Editors and the board of directors of the American Society of Newspaper
Editors. Prof. Foreman as served as a discussion leader for the American Press
Institute and the Poynter Institute for Media Studies and has been a juror for
the Pulitzer Prize competition three times.
