Lesson Plans

The exercises contained in Living up the First Amendment are designed to help schools not only teach the First Amendment, but also find ways to directly apply the democratic principles they are charged with teaching. Throughout the lessons in the unit, students are asked to participate in a variety of exercises: from acting out case studies, to conducting surveys, to serving on a mock Supreme Court.
Education for Freedom is offered by The Freedom Forum's First Amendment Center, a nonpartisan center dedicated to the understanding and appreciation of the values of the First Amendment. These lessons (beginning and advanced levels) address constitutional principles and contemporary issues involving the First Amendment. They may be used in sections or in their entirety.
