Cartoonist arrested while covering Occupy Oakland

Friday, November 4, 2011

KGO-TV in San Francisco has reported that Susie Cagle, a second-generation cartoonist, was among 101 individuals arrested late on Nov. 2 during a sweep of protesters at the Occupy Oakland protest in Frank Ogawa Plaza.

Cagle, a freelance journalist commissioned by Spot.us to chronicle the protests through illustrations, told the television station that she didn’t expect to be arrested because she was wearing a press pass and identified herself to police as a journalist.

“I said I was press, I was originally told, ‘We’ll take care of that in a minute,’ and a minute turned into 14 hours at two different jails,” she told KGO.
