Friday, June 6, 2008

Rock and R& B legend Bo Diddley died June 2 at age 79, of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla. On March 25, 2001, Diddley spoke about his career, his music and his views on music censorship as a guest on the First Amendment Center public television program “Speaking Freely,” in an episode recorded in Nashville. Diddley told host Ken Paulson that he didn’t approve of contemporary rap music that focused on sex and violent themes. But he also said, “We don’t need the government to get into it. People should police themselves.”
